The Endurance Advantage: How Squirt Chain Lube Powers Your Long-Distance Performance
In ultra-endurance racing, efficiency and reliability are the difference between success and a DNF. For riders tackling the long distances of any endurance event, the choice of chain lubricant is critical. This is where Squirt Long Lasting Chain Lube, a pioneering wax-based emulsion, provides an advantage by optimizing performance and drastically reducing maintenance.
The core benefit of Squirt lies in the properties of a wax-based system. Unlike traditional oil-based lubes, which attract dirt and create an abrasive, energy-sapping grinding paste, Squirt Chain Lube is a unique wax-in-water emulsion that dries completely. This dry coating delivers several benefits for endurance riders: it significantly reduces friction, leading to higher efficiency; it prolongs the life of expensive drivetrain components; and by eliminating dirt accumulation, it maintains a quiet ride, allowing you to focus entirely on your effort. Squirt is a long-lasting lube that does not collect dirt, keeping your chain clean mile after mile.
To unlock the full benefits, the initial application is very important. The chain must be completely degreased before the first application. All other oils, greases, and lubes must be removed from the chain in order for the wax to adhere to the bare metal of the chain. It also ensures full penetration to the pins, rollers, and shoulders/bushings of the chain. Once clean and completely dry, the chain requires a two-coat process. Apply the first layer while back-pedaling, let it dry completely (it transitions from milky white to colorless), and then apply a second layer to ensure comprehensive coverage.
The true value for any endurance competitor lies in the minimal maintenance required thereafter. For optimal readiness, we strongly advise lubing the evening before the ride. This ensures the water base has fully evaporated, leaving only the protective, lubricating dry wax within the chain links by the time you start. Re-lubing is only necessary when you start hearing dry chain noise, which typically happens between 30 and 100 miles, depending on the conditions. Re-application is simple: a quick run through a dry rag, followed by a single layer of lube. Important to note, you will never need to degrease your chain again once you've made the switch. It does not form a black build-up; simply use a dry brush to remove occasional external wax deposits.
Even if you encounter small black particles shedding from your chain (especially visible on a trainer), this is a sign of good chain health—it is the mechanism by which excess wax and trapped dirt are expelled. Importantly, Squirt Chain Lube is a biodegradable wax-water emulsion, meaning the shed wax that ends up in the natural environment is not harmful, so you can enjoy the ride knowing that you are only leaving tracks behind.
