Q & A with mountain biking couple Syd and Macky

Syd and Macky are both professional mountain bike racers (and a lovely couple) who truly inspire others through sharing all their adventures, training, races, Van lifestyle and much more on their YouTube channel.

They have a full schedule and we are grateful to have been able to pin our Squirt Cycling Ambassadors down for a quick interview:

Who is Syd and Macky?

We're a couple of professional mountain bike racers who share our adventures of training and racing on our YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/sydandmacky). Our goal is to share our love of mountain bike racing and inspire other people to give it a try.

How did you guys meet?

We met racing mountain bikes in college in Vermont.

Where do you base yourselves currently?

Last December we bought a house in Los Alamos, New Mexico and have been learning A LOT about being homeowners. Before that we lived on the road for 7 years, first in a tiny orange car, then in a Ford Econoline van.

Where is home?

 Syd is originally from Athens, Ohio and I (Macky) am from Taos, New Mexico.

When did you fall in love with bikes?

I got into mountain biking when my family moved to Taos when I was 13 and enrolled me in an afterschool mountain bike program. A couple years later I did my first race and absolutely loved it. Syd has been riding bikes since she was little and did some racing as a kid in Ohio. Then she ran cross country in high school and got back into mountain biking in college.

Favourite Food?

Corn flakes. (Macky)

Strangest food you were thinking of while riding?

I once sat down after a race and ate an entire box of Corn Chex. Maybe not the best post-race fuel, but I needed something ASAP and that's what was available.

What do you always take on a trip?

My head buzzer/shaver. For Syd it's her eye mask for sleeping.

What you would be if you were not a racer?

Sad

You’re favourite Squirt Cycling Product?

Assuming you mean besides the lube (because it's the best) I'd say the biodegradable bike cleaner.
