Biodegradability

What is biodegradability?  The ability of organic substances and materials to be broken down into simpler substances through the action of enzymes from micro-organisms. If this process is complete, the initial organic substances are entirely converted into simple inorganic molecules such as water, carbon dioxide and methane.

LUBE

Imagine a stage race with 1000 riders on a beautiful morning up in the mountains. Straight after the start, the route crosses a pristine mountain stream and again several times before heading further up. 1000 bikes had their chains lubed before the start; if they had used an oil based lube and one milliliter of lube had washed off in five crossings, each rider would have contaminated 1000 liters of water. The stream would suffer 1 million liters of contaminated water. Oily rainbow colors op streams are familiar with all of us.

Not only is Squirt on the chain in solid form which does not wash off easily,  it is also readily biodegradable.

BIKE CLEANER

On many events, especially stage races, bikes get washed off out there in the field. Squirt Bike Cleaner is a mild and environmentally safe water-based alkaline degreaser free of alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO), nonylphenol (NP) and phosphates. Although phosphates are not harmful to humans, anthropogenic (man-made) inputs of phosphorus are well known to have a significant impact on ecosystems and can damage the health of rivers and lakes (eutrophication).  SBC is biodegradable according to EEC Objectives 73/404/EEC (biodegradation of surfactants with a Prim.Degra. of > 90%) and does not contain any paraffin solvents, glycols or any glycol ethers. It is safe to use on steel, aluminum, rubber and garments.
